There are a number of problems with kaggle s chest x ray dataset namely noisy incorrect labels but it served as a good enough starting point for this proof of concept covid 19 detector. The sixray dataset is constructed by pattern recognition and intelligent system development laboratory university of chinese academy of sciences.
To do so i used kaggle s chest x ray images pneumonia dataset and sampled 25 x ray images from healthy patients figure 2 right. To build a public open dataset of chest x ray and ct images of patients which are positive or suspected of covid 19 or other viral and bacterial pneumonias mers sars and ards. All chest x ray imaging was performed as part of patients routine clinical care. The lack of large publicly available datasets with annotations means it is still very difficult if not impossible to achieve clinically relevant computer aided detection and diagnosis cad in real world medical sites with chest x rays.
