Save Image With Transparent Background Gimp. If your image has just one connected surface that you want to make transparent like the one in the example than make sure to select the first option in the list of mode options see green arrow. To export an image with alpha transparency you must have an alpha channel.
Click and drag the opacity slider at the top of the window to the left or click the downward facing arrow next to it to lower the opacity. Step 1 open your image and select the area you want to make transparent in this example the black background will be removed deleted. Layer transparency add alpha channel.
Trying it out a bit more it seems that you should be able to right click copy png images and get a correct file when pasting it.
A new window will open called tool options. On gimp it looks transparent and i can export it as png but the file then ends up having a white or black background. This will make your image to stay with a transparent background. Grab the fuzzy select tool by clicking on the icon highlighted in the above image or simply press u on your keyboard.
