On the general pane click the change button to the right of opens with and select windows photo viewer. This app is the newly designed app but not as efficient as the photo viewer. To check press and hold or right click a photo in file explorer and select open with. Choose windows photo viewer and exit the settings menu and you re done photos will now open up in windows photo viewer.
